Choose your craft, yarn weight and blanket size to see how many yards (or meters) and how many skeins you need. For an exact number, switch to the swatch tab.
A worsted knitted throw (50 × 60 in) typically needs about 2,823 yards (2,581 m), usually between 2,379 and 3,465 yards, based on 223 published knit blanket patterns in worsted weight.
Includes a 10% safety margin in the skein count. Quick estimates use the median of 2,681 single-size blanket patterns published on Ravelry; your stitch pattern can use more or less, so the swatch method is the most accurate.
How this yarn calculator works
The quick estimate uses the yardage per square inch of 2,681 single-size blanket patterns published on Ravelry, grouped by craft and yarn weight. We show the median and the range that covers the middle half of those patterns, because textured stitches such as bobbles, cables and puff stitches use far more yarn than lace or open stitches.
The exact method follows the swatch-weighing approach recommended by Lion Brand: make a small swatch in your actual stitch pattern, weigh it, and scale it up to the full blanket using the weight and length printed on your yarn label.

Yarn weight categories follow the Craft Yarn Council Standard Yarn Weight System. Blanket dimensions are typical sizes from the Sleep Foundation blanket size guide; your bed or pattern may differ, so use a custom size if needed.
